Student & Parent FAQ
Common questions about reporting to Courage2Report
Why make a report?
The purpose of Courage2Report is to prevent school violence. If the situation is not an emergency and you want to remain a confidential reporter, Courage2Report will make sure the proper authorities are notified.
Reporting school violence is important — it is not snitching or tattling to report someone who is planning to hurt classmates or school staff. You may be saving lives and helping your friend or classmate get the help they need. If you see or hear something that makes you think someone's life is in danger:
- Call 911.
- Talk to someone at your school.
- Talk to your parents.
- If you feel you cannot tell an adult, submit a confidential tip to Courage2Report — you do not need to leave your name.
How does Courage2Report work?
It is safe and simple. Anyone can report school safety concerns to trained, friendly analysts online or by phone. The analyst creates a report of your concern and forwards it immediately. The report is shared with local law enforcement and the school district official, who decide how to most appropriately handle the situation.
Who can submit a tip to Courage2Report?
Anyone can submit a tip to Courage2Report. We accept tips from students, parents, school personnel, and concerned citizens. You can submit a tip online or by phone — calls are always free in the United States. You never have to give your name; reports are confidential.
Is Courage2Report a statewide service?
Yes. Courage2Report serves the entire state of Missouri and accepts tips about any public or private school, pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. We take reports for incidents on school property, at a school event, on the school bus, at the bus stop, and on the way to and from school.
Does the reporter have to give their name?
No. Reporters never have to leave their name and can always remain confidential.
If I call Courage2Report, am I speaking to a real person?
Yes. Courage2Report is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. When you submit a tip, professional and friendly analysts gather information and prepare the report. If the incident requires immediate attention, call 911.
If I submit a tip, what information will I be asked to give?
Courage2Report will ask you to name or describe the person involved. If you can give names, grades, and the location of the people involved — including any victims, targets, or witnesses — that is very helpful. Analysts will also need the name of the school and the city where the incident happened or is happening. No one will require you to give your name.
Analysts ask about the incident: What happened? When did it happen? Where did it occur? Did anyone see or hear what happened?
Analysts try to gather as much information as possible so a complete report can be sent to local school officials and law enforcement.
Is there any follow-up? How do I know if a situation is resolved?
Courage2Report analysts follow up on each report about 7 days after it is received. Follow-up surveys are sent to schools and law enforcement to rate their Courage2Report experience. Courage2Report is a public service, and the staff want to provide the best possible service for students and concerned adults.
